I have just completed the book “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey. In this famous book you will find seven principles that, if established as habits will definitely help a person achieve true interdependent effectiveness. After getting inspiration from this book, I am going to point out seven habits of good bloggers. I have got more than one year of experience in the field of blogging and I have been constantly watching other good blogs on internet. All these 7 habits are common in most of the successful bloggers on internet like John Chow, Darren Rowse, Amit Agarwal, John TP, Seth Godin, Maki Maki etc. I am also trying to adopt these seven habits in my blogging. So let’s discuss 7 habits of a good blogger, one by one.
- Using Latest Technology — Most of the good blogger on internet prefer to use latest technologies in their blog. There are many free sites available on internet where you can register and make your own blog like blogger.com, wordpress.com but in my opinion if you are a serious blogger then you should use WordPress package installed on your servers. Even Amit Agarwal, a few months back shifted his blog from blogger to self-hosted wordpress powered blog.
- Writing comments on other blogs of same nature — Good bloggers always post comments on blogs of same nature. There are many advantages of writing comments. By posting comments you can give your blog’s URL there so when the blog owner and readers of the blog see the comment and if they find it interesting they will definitely click the link to visit the blog.
- Posting articles regularly — On almost every good blog, you will find new articles daily. This is key to success in blogging. It forces the blog readers to revisit the blog for new contents. Remember Content is the king. If there is no new content then it is worthless to visit the blog.
- Make money online — Normally every good blogger is earning thousand of dollars every month through his or her blog. Have you seen the famous adsense cheque of more than 1 lakh dollars on Shoemoney.com. Actually money inspires a blogger to write more and post regularly. Suppose if you are not earning good money through your blog then in the end you will leave blogging and ultimately your blog will be dead.
- Express the original thoughts and ideas or be honest in your articles — Never imitate, imitation is not a way to success in blogging. Always try to pen down your thoughts. If you feel something is wrong then write about it. If you feel something is good then don’t hesitate in appreciating that thing. Always remember, your readers want your original thoughts, if they find the same ideas and contents on some other blog they why they will visit you. In this respect I would like to talk about ShoeMoney and JohnChow. They both write about making money online. But their ideas are different, they talk differently. They have their own ways to earn more through their blog. That’s why they are famous, earning millions. You can also earn through your blog. Just post your original thoughts and ideas and left everything to your readers. That is what all the good bloggers are doing.
- Giving links to other good articles — Good bloggers always give links and references to other interesting articles on internet. It is like a win-win situation. You can’t be a good blogger without being the part of big blogging community.
- Advertising the blog — You can easily find good bloggers on technorati, mybloglog, twitter, digg, myspace, facebook. All these are best platform to advertise nice articles. After writing a new article, good bloggers always bookmark it on social bookmarking sites. This is the easiest and cheapest way to advertise the blog. During early days, a good bloggers invests plenty of time in advertising his or her blog so that more and more readers will come to know about that new blog. They also use adwords, blog directories, link building, paid reviews etc for advertising the blog.
